Wartime Lifestyle
What do you guys think about living a "Wartime Lifestyle" as a means of "walking as children of the Light"? You can read Ralph Winter's article at http://www.missionfrontiers.org/1994/0910/so948.htm
I believe that living a simple and sacrificial life is one of the greatest ways we can grow. "Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil". How tempting it is to believe the lie that we live in a time of peace!
By God's grace I believe we can live radically different lives. The question is do we really want to? Do we talk about it, let alone challenge one another to live wartime lifestyles?

Thanks for posting that, Pete. Just reading this convicts me of living too extravagant a lifestyle.
This reminds me of Mark 12:41-44, the story of the poor widow who put the last of her savings into the offering box. Living in America, it is rather difficult to live like this, since it is contrary to that with which we are accustomed. This is, perhaps, something that we should pray for. Apart from God's grace, we would certainly fail to live radically as the widow did.
I heard Piper say this... It is difficult for a rich man to go to Heaven; namely, it is difficult for an American to go to Heaven because an American has so much stuff - money, positions, etc. - that they really don't know which one is a cruth.
So, I hear that and question myself - what do I have that I am leaning on (as a crutch) - what am I holding onto? What is my support (or fulfillment/joy)?
"Try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord." "Look carefully then how you walk." We should examine ourselves at times when we make purchases/make comments/have impulses - what are they and where are they coming from?
